The Copthorne Players are excited to get going with our next production, “Boeing Boeing”, a farce by Marc Camoletti which has had many runs in New York, London and Paris. A well-established and highly successful piece, we expect it to be popular with our audience and also provide role opportunities across gender and age groups.
The play is set in a flat owned by Bernard, a singleton originally of French extraction, with an appetite for several girlfriends in tow at the same time. Only his friend Robert is aware of the arrangement but becomes embroiled in the deceit when, due to scheduling mishaps, all three girlfriends find themselves at the flat at the same time. The farce is also enhanced by a housekeeper named Berthe, who has many of the comedic lines. With the three girlfriends being air crew from Italy, USA and Italy there are plenty of opportunities for exaggerated accents. Timely entrances and exits are key to this fast moving piece with a total running time of two hours.
There are six parts up for grabs:
– Bernard, he of many girlfriends
– Robert, his friend
– Berthe, the housekeeper
– Gloria, the American girlfriend
– Gabriella, the Italian girlfriend
– Gretchen, the German girlfriend
The play will be directed by Trevor Hodsdon with a planned run in October 2023 at the Copthorne Village Hall, exact dates pending confirmation.
Auditions will be at the Delmar Morgan Centre on Copthorne Bank on Wednesday 14th June, 8pm.
