Hello all, and welcome back to the Copthorne Players newsletter!
Thank you to everyone who came along to our auditions for Charley’s Aunt. We’re really excited to get going with the show, but we still have one gap in our cast of eight. Sadly, our last auditionee had to pull out due to a date clash.
We are therefore still seeking a Stephen Spettigue*! Spettigue is a Scottish businessman – think Alan Sugar crossed with Brian Cox. We are looking for a man who can play around age 50 or older, with good comic timing and a Scottish accent. Any region – we’re not fussy!
Charley’s Aunt is a classic comedy originally written in the nineteenth century, but we’re bringing it bang up to date with characters spanning the generations from Spettigue the boomer businessman down to Gen Z Kitty. We’re spending our first week of rehearsals workshopping Trevor’s brand new script to make it as funny as we can, so this is a great opportunity to get involved in a collaborative creative project.
Rehearsals start this Sunday 19th April, so time is getting tight to find our Spettigue. If you or someone you know might be right for the role, please reach out to me or to our director Trevor Hodsdon.
You can find all rehearsal and show dates here.
I hope to hear from some potential Spettigues soon!
All the best,
Megan Birch
